1912 School Coal Inspector

In 1912, a coal provider bound to contract with the city of Binghamton delivers a product of less than promised quality. The buckwheat coal is smaller than the sample presented when suppliers bid. Stephen D. Wilbur rejects the delivery.

Buckwheat coal:

  • Anthracite coal in sizes ranging from 5/16 to 9/16 inch (7.9 to 13.9m).
  • Word Origin: 1880-85, Americanism
