February 22, 1918, The Binghamton Press writes an interesting article regarding the position of Truant Officer.
Three years previously a second truant officer is hired to assist Stephen in his duties. During the month of January, 1981, Stephen retires. The second truant officer, James M. Dwyer, requests double the salary for doing the job of two people. Stephen's salary was $720 annually, about $11,000. He is 76 years old.
